Company History

In 1940 Ira Guinn started a Richfield Oil distributorship in Modesto, California at the corner of 9th St and Kansas Ave. Stan and Carol Boyett purchased this distributorship in 1962.

Stan started his career in the oil business in 1934 with Shell Oil, in San Francisco. Carol started her career in San Francisco, that same year but with Standard Oil of California. When they were married in 1935 they vowed to keep their marriage a secret at work because married women were not allowed to keep their jobs at Chevron during the depression.

The Boyett Family HistoryAfter World War II, Stan returned to sell petroleum equipment for Shields, Harper and Company and sold lubricants for Swan Finch Co. In 1948 Stan and Carol became partners with Walt Barbour to form Barbour's Premium Stations. The stations were well known in the Modesto, Manteca and Atwater area. They had everything anyone could ask for and more including competitive prices, Cadillac Give-Aways every other Thursday and the hottest selling trends like, Hula Hoops and Bamboo Rakes.

Stan and Carol's son Carl joined the company in 1970. Carl had won an appointment to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and after volunteering for the Army had served in Vietnam. Carl also received his Master of Business Administration from Pepperdine University. Carl currently serves as Chief Executive Officer of Boyett Petroleum and as President of the Society of Independent Gasoline Marketers of America in Washington DC. Carl also is a past president of Modesto Sunrise Rotary and the Modesto Symphony Orchestra. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Gallo Arts Center. Carl and Carole Boyett
